Coughing


FLOWERS
Echinacea, a pretty purple coneflower does wonders for a dry cough that has lingered after a cold. Dry the root of the plant and brew as a tea. Drink a cup of this 2-3 times per day for a week. By mid week, you should start noticing the cough lessen.

LEMON
Squeezed over a teaspoon of honey and sucked, poured into tea or added to water to gargle. If gargling, mix about 4 ounces of warm water with 1.4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Gargle 3-4 times per day.

SLIPPERY ELM
Slippery elm was a common remedy in colonial America. Mixed with water or milk, it was served as a soothing nutritious food similar to oatmeal. This can also be added to water to make a tea. Drink or eat 2-3 times per day.

PEPPERMINT
Heat a cup of water then add two drops of peppermint oil or 2 peppermint leaves. Hang head over the cup and breathe in the vapors.

ONIONS & SUGAR
Finely chop a whole oinion in a bowl. Cover chopped onion with a half cup of white sugar and allow to sit overnight. By morning, you should see a clear syrup in the bowl. Drink one tablespoon of the syrup every four or five hours.

KARO SYRUP
Mix one glass of water with 3 tablespoons of dark Karo syrup. Gargle this mixture each hour on the first day of your cough. Results are usually immediate.

MILK & BUTTER
Fill a cup with warm milk and add two teaspoons of sweet butter. Drink this mixture two to three times a day and feel the results within a few days!
